The Summer Slowdown is a myth

(but with the right plan it doesn't have to be)

When I worked in corporate, I always looked forward to the slower pace of summer. Every year, I imagined I would finally have time to tackle the projects and to-do list items that had been piling up all year. But somehow, summer never worked out that way.

Between vacations, work travel, changing schedules, and kids home from school, summer often leaves us with less time and less structure, not more. Before we know it, we can end the season feeling further behind and more burned out than when we started.

This year, I'm approaching summer differently. The businesses that continue making progress through the summer aren't necessarily the ones working harder. They're the ones that get clear on their priorities before the season begins.

If you're running a business or leading a team, consider taking a few minutes this month to identify the two or three things that would make the biggest difference in achieving your year-end goals. What truly matters? What would be nice to accomplish, but isn't essential?

Write those priorities down and build the next three months around them.

Let them guide your decisions, your meetings, and where you invest your energy. When everyone is focused on the same small set of meaningful goals, progress becomes easier, distractions become clearer, and work feels a lot less overwhelming.

That's what this month is about: entering summer with intention.

It's about staying connected to your goals, your business, and a community of people who understand the challenges of building something meaningful. Because growth is always lighter when you're not doing it alone.
